Karibu!

SEW (Supporting + Empowering Women) is a social enterprise that provides employment to HIV+ women in Arusha, Tanzania. SEW seeks to end the stigma associated with HIV by demonstrating that HIV+ women are resilient, industrious and capable.

The Sewing Mamas produce recycled items under the SEW label with our recycled fair-trade conference bag proving our most popular creation. These conference bags are a wonderful addition to any event.

SEW is also a sophisticated ethical manufacturer, and we welcome inquiries from designers across the globe. In 2013 SEW launched an exclusive range with high-end Melbourne designer Zoe Elizabeth (www.zoeelizabeth.com.au). We are looking forward to extending this range and releasing new accessories and garments.

As a social enterprise we have a commitment to the sustainable economic development of HIV+ women and their communities. The Sewing Mamas are paid a fair price for their products which includes a loading to incorporate superannuation contributions, sick and annual leave, at least double the award wage and medical expenses. All profits are re-invested into the project.
